Mockbeggar, Bonavista
Fair warning: Thomas Mouland House is like an onion. It has layers upon layers of history and stories stretching back more than a century. The original namesake owner survived a nautical disaster that stranded 132 sealers out on the ice, and the lore that surrounds this event is well documented. Afterwards the home changed hands several times, with each new owner adding their story to its walls and floors. When the time came for restoration, we peeled each layer carefully, and honour each storied intricacy with enthusiastic reverence. Humble materials like linoleum and wallpaper become evocative artwork, and found objects depict the life of the colourful characters that have called Mockbeggar home. The mix of authentic fixtures and modern convenience, along with signature rustic-luxe design, is what makes Thomas Mouland House such a pleasure to call home-away-from-home.
