Outer Battery Village, St. John’s
On the inside, the Hare’s Ears Cottage has all the modern (and may we say, chic) facets you’d expect: a cook’s kitchen, fluffy towels and pillowtop beds that are perfect for a good lie-in. And bonus: there’s a little apartment on the ground floor with its own kitchen and bath, for when your travel mates want a bit of privacy. Looking outwards, you’re tucked into the cliff at the centre of Outer Battery Village, and have some of the most easterly views in North America. The ocean is 30 feet from your doorstep, meaning a morning dip (albeit a bracing one) is not out of the question, though filling your lungs with bracing sea air is probably more civilized. Not that fine decorum is the name of the game here, since St. John’s practically wrote the book on salt-of-the-earth living. You’ll understand what we mean as you have your morning cuppa while surveying the harbour.
