Seafair House

The architect who built Seafair House had a keen eye for detail: he designed rain caps over the windows and doors to battle North Atlantic storms, and steeply gabled the roof to prevent snow from building up. He was a bit of a vanguard for 1913, and our recent renovation was undertaken with this spirit in mind. Now, that’s not to say the house doesn’t lean into its seafaring heritage: case in point, the fisherman’s ladder that leads up to the loft, or as we like to say, “dibs on the cool bedroom!” With all its modern and, dare we say, luxe touches, Seafair House’s sense of place is evident, and it simply could not exist outside of the storied Mockbeggar neighbourhood in Bonavista, Newfoundland. You’ll want to give yourself at least a few days to settle into the curves and corners of the house, to let your feet memorize the two-minute boardwalk to the ocean’s edge. By then, you can start asking for “your usual” when you visit the pub and greet everyone by their first name. Seafair House at Mockbeggar just seems to have that effect on everyone who comes from away.
